Show CRUISER CORNWALL STILL ON THE ROCKS HALIFAX, N. K, Aug. 7. No effort waa mad during the night to haul off the British cruiser Cornwall, which went oa the rock on the ledge of Cape Sable last night. The cruiser atniek o a falling tide and It wai not deemed ad viaabl to make any attempt to pall her off antil th next high tide. The Cornwall waa going at greatly reduced speed when ah gronaded and apparently auatained no very serious damage. A' moment after ana struck her big engines were aent racing estera, but th ship did not move. Several of the wrecking steamer which were at work oa tbe Niob. at Clark' harbor, were aent to th scene and th government steamer Lady Laurier waa aleo dispatched. The Cornwall carries a arew of S00 men. The eruiaer ia aow being used aa a tralaiag kip. |
