At last night's session ses-sion of the council the matter wns discussed dis-cussed and it was the general opinion that if 'the eitr fails to pay the regular salary to the holdover eouncilmen there will be good gronods for suit. It was argued that in taking; the oath of office any city official is virtually entering into a contract with the corporation of 8alt Lake, and if the city did not pay the stipend for the full term to which elected, the contract would be considered ns broken and good cause for suit brought out. The holdover eouncilmen at the end of thia year will be J. B. Moreton of tha first precinct, K. G. O'Donnell of the second, John Holler of the third, M. E. Mutrer of the fifth and President W. Mont Ferry of the fourth. The positions posi-tions would ordinarily pay $V n month, or a total of 91200 in two years. |
