In support of tha declaration of the Sunday observance ob-servance committee bf the Presbyterian general assembly at Atlantis City recently, re-cently, that Sunday in the national capital cap-ital is desecrated as rn few other large ritrea of the United States, Rev. Wallace Wal-lace Radcliffe. pastor af tha New York Avenue Presbyterian church, reiterated to his congregation last night the charges made by the committee. Tha pastor said that theatres ware run here on 8unday. that the. excise laws were regularly disregarded, that publie and private work was dona on a large scale and that the Sunday entertainments of the rich were a menace to the moral welfare. "If he were asked to do so, the pastor pas-tor said he could take any one out on Sunday and get him a drink. On the Sabbath day' said Mr. Badrliffe, "the man who walks down town is constantly face to face with tha temptations temp-tations to drink." Mr. Radcliffe himself was a delegate to the general assembly, whose criticism criti-cism of Washington 'a observance of Sunday, or lack thereof, was so severe aa to meet with prompt denial from city officials. |
