After wandering thirteen daya In tha woods near Sliver Lake, fearing to uss matches or cook food ho carried because of danger of setting tha foreat afire. William C. McKlnley of Rockford. Ill, was found by eearchere todsy. McKlnley became lost while on a fishing trip. Unable to get hla bearings, he traveled day and night In a five-mile five-mile circle, ahoutlng for help. For a week hla cries were heard by fishermen on the opposite shore of tha lake, but they were unable to rescue him becauaa of tha rough water. Searchera also became confused, owing to echoes, and sought him In tha wrong direction. George Wommer and Rick Anderson, An-derson, trappers, finally navigated the atormy lake and came upon the wanderer. He waa half erased and they iad to threaten to shoot him to keep him from running away. McKlnley's clothing waa torn and hla face haggard. He carried blankets, however, which helped to keep him fairly comfortable at night, but ha carried no weapons. Ma la ataylng at Anderson's camp until ha reeovere physically. |
