Show TO SHIP HSH IN OPEN SEASON Representative Westphal's Bill Proposes Means to Get Rid of Scavenger Product Pro-duct in Utah LaKe. At least one legislator has a dispep tic feeling toward the scavenger fish of I'tah lake, and as an. outgrowth ot this unfriendliness Representath e West rhal yesterdav introduced a bill which allows the shipping of these fish in the open season. The fish in question are carp, mullets, suckers and chubs, which have been seriously damaging the spawn and young of other fish in T"tnh lake. The lake is now overrun with these fish. The bill presented by Representative Westphal also provides for a number of other changes in the game and fish law. principally that a license be s cured by nur.rods before they ran bo allowed to figh and hunt. Th prrpo.-Ad changes are as follow: This messure changes Section 1, of the present law, so as to provid th close season for bass from November 1 to July 1. Thp close seison for trout is between December 1-5 and July lr as at present. Section 14 is proposed to be amended by making the mesh for the seins iu taking carp, chubs, mullet, bull heads, cat fish or suckers shall he one and one half inches instead of two inches. Th following provision is added at the close of the spetion as it now exists: ''And eai'h of such persons shall before commencing such seining apply to and procure from th County Commisioners of the county in which such seining is to b carried on. n lirense therefor, which license shill he issued upon the payment of twentv-five dollars, and shall cover the season for which it is applied for during which seining mnv be lawfully c.nrred on. The Counfv Commissioner", Com-missioner", issuing s'ich license, may re vrk0 same upon proof thnt the- person to whom it rris been issued hns been, bv a court of competent jurisdirion. convicted of a violation of snv of the provisions of this chapter. Th money received from such licenses shall be ex pended bv the county C.-ih and ga:n warden, under the direction of the Count v Commissioners, for the protection protec-tion and propagation of fish and game in the county in which such license fee is collected." Trovided. that such person over the age of 14 shall procure from the county clerk or other officer author-I7ed author-I7ed to is'ie the same, a licence in the sum of $1.00 for each and every gun or hook find lined used by such person for the seaon of each nnd every year. The present closed season is from Jar.u arv 1 to October 1. Tt is proposed to extend the open season for quail, etc.. to Utah county, as well as to Salt Lake, Weber and Davis counties. Section 9 is proposed to be amended to read as follows: "It shall be un lawful for an yperson or persons at anv time to ship or cause to be shipped, carried or transported, birds or fish, r r any part or parts thereof, deal or alive, mentioned in this chapter, provide! that carp, suckers, mullet and chubs j may be shipped after being first inspected in-spected by a fish and game warden or his deputv where such fish are taken, and such fish and game warden, or his deputy, where such fish are taken, and such fish and game warden, or his deputy, shall attach to each parcp or package of such shipment a 'atemcr.t that the same has been inspected, and giving the kind of fibh and the weight thereof, which statement must be signed by the fish and game warden, or his deputv making such inspection. |
