The jrrsin dealers of Salt T.akr Cjtv hsve put themselves unanimously on record ss against the proposed railroad commission law and are hichlv in1i nant that the Merchants and Mnnnfa.' turers' association, of which a lare number of the grain dalrrs are mem hers, should be said to favor the meas urer At the meeting yesterday the bill was thoroughly discussed and as a rcsnlt those who had been in favor of the bill went over to the other side unconditionally, making s solid vote in opposition. The resolutions declared in effect thst it is inexpedient at the present time for the grain dealers to petition the legislature on the railroad commission com-mission bill or to indorse any steps of the Legislature toward creating a rail road commission in Utah. The resolutions resolu-tions state that the railroads are doing do-ing a large amount of building i I'tah, and are therefore public benefactors; bene-factors; also, that the railroads hare alwavs deslt fairly Avith the grain deale'rs and have adjusted grievances in the past to the satisfaction of all concerned; and that the bill would tend to impair progress and inspire strife rather than harmony. At a meeting of the M. and M. association asso-ciation last Sunday, when only twenty-five members were present, a reso lution fnvoring the bill was passed. A protest against this action was made by the grain merchants yesterday. |
