Show WHAT ARE THE FACTS? The Current-Journal of Rexburg. Ida., affects to believe that the editor of this journal has been a persistent enemy of the Mormon church and people for lo. these many years; that a hate implacable has controlled. It does not much matter, but we beg to ask our northern neighbor one question. Has this editor ever asked aught of either the Mormon ehurch, chiefs or people except that the church and people shall be made subject to some laws that all others in this land are subject to! And is that too much to ask? If it tinds that, after af-ter all. it is true that we have asked for nothing else, then let it give the Democratic vote irr the three Mormon Mor-mon counties of Idaho in the election two years ago, and then the same vote last November. If the difference was very considerable, then it must have come about through the order published by Joseph F. Smith in the Improvement Kra for Democratic Mormons to vote last November for the Republican ticket. That in effect was a violation of the Constitutions of both Utah and Idaho. That kind of work is what drove the saints from Illinois. Does our northern neighbor think it was right? Again, suppose all that we have ever asked of the saints had been granted, is it not true that both States would now be American States, and both peopled peo-pled by self-respecting and patriotic Americans7 It is a poor defense for a paper that defends crime to plead the personal hate of some man as a justification. |
