Despite the great care and dehhera tion that has been shown bv District Attorney Jerome and Clifford V. Hart ridge, leading counsel for the defense, in the selection of jurors, the progress made has been gratifying, in the opifl ion of both sides. Hut for the personal direction of the prisoner in challenging talesmen, the iury would have Keen complete,! yesterday. On three oca sions Thaw has challenged, peremptorily, peremp-torily, men accepted by his counsel. Two of these challenges he ordered last week and odo yesterday. Banymore May Testify. An interested spectator in conrt ves-terday ves-terday afternoon was "Jack" Barrv-more, Barrv-more, the actor. He came to the courtroom court-room with Detective Flood of the District Dis-trict Attornev 'a office and in a certain contingency he will be a witness for the prosecution. Barrymore was acquainted ac-quainted with Evelyn Nesbit when Stanford White made her acquaintance and ia familiar with the circumstances under which the architect came to know her. Should any atempt be made on the part of the defense to introduce testimony regarding White's acquaintance acquaint-ance with Evelyn Nesbit that would i tend to blacken the late architect's memory, it i believed that the actor will be put on the stand in rebuttal. By consent of all concerned in the Thaw caee. Jurors Arthur S. Campbell and Harold R. Falre were excused from further service this afternoon. |
