WASHINGTON. May 3. -President ' Wilson returned to the white house at 8 o'clock today after a two day' : speaking trip to Mew Jersey. He expressed ex-pressed himself as pleased with hi re caption in that state and confident that the reforms ha advocated ultimately would be accomplished. One of the incidents of the trip was a meeting in New York with National Chairman William F. McCombs and Secretary McAdoo of the treasury department de-partment at the home of Col. E. M. House. It waa the first time that Chairman ! McCombs and Secretary McAdoo, who 1 wan vice chairman, had met since the early days of the campaign Differences Differ-ences of opinion as to the management of the campaign are said to have ex-' ex-' isted between the two men, though their relations with Mr. Wilson were alwaya cordial. In view of the wide apread significance, politically, that had been attached to the situation, th president wn glad to meet his two friends for a social chat, especially since Mr. McCombs waa scheduled to sail for Europe today for several months' rest. The departure of Mr. McCombs for Kurope revived talk here of the circumstances circum-stances under which he declined the president 'a offer to be embassador to Franco. There was an Intimation that while Mr. McCombs was going abroad for a rest, he might be offered the same poet later and would accept. sV far as is known the president has not deter mined upon anyone else for this post. |
