Nea-len. After an extended budget aes . sion Mayor Neslen declared that hopes have not been given up for a 10-mJII levy for municipal purposes and that the levy may possibly be reduced to that figure If the assessed valuation . of property within the city shows an Increase over last year. A 10-mlll tax levy for municipal -purposes would hernr reduc Oon of 1 mill from the levy of last year. 9uch a reduction has generally been considered con-sidered as practically Impossible. The actual tax levy will not be fixed until lata In the summer, when the assessment rolls will be finished and the figures for a computation will be on hand. The budget sessions are de-voted de-voted to adopting estimates of the money needed to run the vsrious departments de-partments of the city government dur- ing the year, and the preliminary estimate esti-mate of cha tax levy Is usually made - with the assessment rolls of the pre- timis year as a trails. When the first budget estimates were considered by the city commission commis-sion several weeks ago hopes for a I is-mill levy were practically abandoned aban-doned when the various department request were found to total $3,001.-7-.2. Mayor Neslen, with the ap-' ap-' proval of the commissioners, sent the requests back to the various depart -: raent heada to be cut "to the bone." . Tha success in trimming the requests, ss evidenced at the last few budget sessions, again Is making him hopeful for tha 10-mlll levy. Mayor Neslen said. Further consideration of the budget was scheduled for special meeting to be held this afternoon and Haturday. |
