Show Seattle Port Waterfront Is Awarded Strip WASHINGTON. Jan. II. Th port of Seattle in th supreme court today won It fight to obtain the right to a valuable strip of waterway, area in Kant Waterway. Seattle harbor, claimed by the Oregon A Washington Railroad company. The company t.ronfM suit sg.lnsl the port of Seattle to obtain In land in order to construct a dork and a paasageway to keep water from some filled In land which It acquired. It waa claimed that th construction could lx mad only on permit from th state and the payment of special rental taxes. Laswer court decrees upholding the claims of railroads having terminals on the harbor to riparian rights through ownership of land adjacent to the Improved harbor were reversed, the higher court holding that no such rights existed under Washington laws. The area In dispute waa described as being "within the boundaries of the east waterway In the harbor of Seattle and lying between th west boundary and the United State government gov-ernment pier head 4Ine In the waterway." |
