"trimmed to the core" in an effort to keep down operation expense and greater burden from taxation, the state financial budget for the biennium beginning April 1 wu submitted to the legislature today by Governor Charlen R. Mabey. The budget, giving a eompreheuKivc entimate" of the financial condition of the state at the' opening and elose of the biennium, shows an estimated revenue of 2,071.159.:i8 and an existing deficit on March 31, 1921, of $984,967.65, making a total of $3,0."6,127.0:. The estimated financial condition of the state at the close of the bicnniuin. March 31, 1923. shows an approximate general fund revenue of I4.1ZO.000 and a reduction of the present deficit of $9M,97.5 to $403,027.(5. UNIVERSITY CUT. The greatest reduction in appropriations appropria-tions recommended by Governor Mabey ia for the fund of the University of Ctah. The Institution aaked for a total to-tal of $8!S.B00, an increase of the present pres-ent biennium of $611,100. Coventor Mabey recommends that the university fund nut exceed $10,000. Other appropriations that will he materially ma-terially sliced, if the recommendations of the chief executive are observed, include in-clude the departments of the state engineer, en-gineer, state school for deaf and blind. Agricultural college, branch of the Agricultural Ag-ricultural college, juvenile court commission com-mission and the slate crop pest bureau. Bills are now pending before the legislature leg-islature for the abolishment or consolidation consoli-dation of several state departments. Including the aecurlties communion, the state d:ilry and food bureau and the stalf crop pest commission. Thete departments de-partments have axkrd for appropriations appropria-tions totaling $51,100. FIVE ARE LOW. Only five state departments asked for smaller appropriations than were allowed in 19U-1920.
