John D. Rice, dep- uty state attorney general, said : Tuesday. The opinion held tha legislature did not Intend to give assistance to residents of other states and tha law Implies the person receiving assistance shall be in tha state of Utah, where his or her necessities may be Investigated. The opinion was asked by J. W. Gllman, director of the public welfare wel-fare department, after he received an application for assistance from a former resident of Piute county. The man, Mr. GUlman said, lived In California, but continued to receive re-ceive old aga assistance from Utah because he maintained his legal residence here. In January, 1939, his . pension was terminated, but he has reapplied for assistance. |
