Show FRANK KBAKER I TELEGRAM IPOMS DITOft L jJl Unlike Bear River, which leaned, heavily on Grant Cullimore for its scoring punch, or Dixie, which counted upon little Dwane Esplin for the bulk of its points, Uintah's new high school champions had a wide variety of scoring threats. . If one man happened to lose his shooting eye or the opposition oppo-sition clamped a heavy defense on the man who had been shooting standout the day before, the righting Utes refused to be impressed. They simply produced a scoring star from some other source and kept right on winning. Forward Ken Sowards led the champions with 15 points in their opening day victory over Lehi, 33-25. He was still high with eight points the next day as the team eliminated Granite's defending champions, 20-18, but his four starting mates came up with the other 12 points it took to win. Things were going tough for Sowards against North Summit's fighting outfit the next day, so Neldon Walker, the center, came up with ten points in the last half to keep the Vernal squad in the championship race. And all this while LeGrande Hadlock, he of the flaming red hair, hadn't been much of a scoring threat Then came the ' title game with Bear River and he flung three baskets as an all-important starter for his club and wound up with 13 points to share scoring honors with Sowards. All of which is just another way of pointing out how well-balanced the Uintah team really is.
