N Y of tha senate commerce committee took preliminary ate pa today toward an inveatlgation of what he called "communistic influence!" at work on American ahips. He ordered the committee! ataff to collect all Information available on labor diaputea aboard American merchant marine ships, Including tha strike of seamen on the Algic during a South American cruise. Tha Algic strike waa "mutiny." Copeland aaaertrd. He declared it waa one of many incidents In which crewa had rcfuaed to obey orders aa a result of labor diaputea. "I am determined to try to get at the bottom of thia communiatic aea-men't aea-men't fight." Copeland said. "I'm aick and tireU of that buaineaa There la no uaa in building ahipa unless we hava seamen that will operate them." Copeland said tha commerce committee com-mittee already had the authority to conduct an Investigation through its safety-at-aea aubcommittee. |
