The music had started again and Freddy Blake cams up, smiling purposefully. pur-posefully. "I haven't had a dance with Maria all evening." he complained. "I demand my rights as a rejected reject-ed suitor." Barry took Marls in his arms, telling Freddy to go away, and quickly. Freddy ambled off, muttering mut-tering imprecations. Maris saw her father dancing with Edith Sutton. She and Barry danced past them. "Having a nice time?" Edith called, smiling. Nice Time Maris nodded. Of course, she was having nice time. Maris listened while Barry confirmed con-firmed their engagement and it became be-came real to her for the first time. Tomorrow morning the event would be a published fact, She felt again that sense of being caged Barry's remarks to the reporter lowered the door of the cage, trapping her. She felt a wild desire to cry out to deny it to say that It was all a heard- the radio announcer's voice and strained to hear what he had to ssy. She heard the word The music stopped and the radio announcer's voice came to her again. The room was silent breathless.
