Show 125,000 TO VOTE' III NLRB POLL; DETROIT, Feb. 14 lV-The largest collective bargaining poll ever conducted by the national labor relation! board. Involving S8 plant! and 129,000 employe! of General Motor! corporation, may be held early In April, It wat predicted pre-dicted today. An agreement by atlpulation reached by (our petitioning union! and the corporation last night ended end-ed what had threatened to be lengthy hearing on the subject of election procedure and aet the stage for the balloting. May Veto In April Frank H. Bowen, NLRB regional re-gional director, aaid the agreement might permit the election to be held early In April. The time will be aet by the labor board after examination of the hearing tran-script tran-script in Washington. "In this, the largest employer rase that haa yet come before the board," commented Bowen, "we have the shortest transcript we have had to make, some 160 page!. "If the parties hid not reached an agreement It would have been necessary to call In hundreds of witnesses and delve Into practically practi-cally every employment problem of the corporation in order to determine de-termine how the election should be conducted." The principal point settled by the ; agreement concerned the unit for bargaining, a matter of controversy contro-versy ainee the hearing began. Agree on Units The Joint stipulation provided that "the appropriate bargaining unit . . . li the plant or group of related building! operating under a common local resident manager In the same local community, producing pro-ducing similar or related products, or craft subdivisions within each plant as may be selected by employe! em-ploye! therein." The itipulation was signed by officials of the corporation, the United Automobile Workers C I O), the United Automobile Worker! (A F L), the Patternmaker!' Patternmak-er!'
