Show House Balks at Denying Funds For U. S. Ambassador to Reds WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 (AP) The house refused today to withhold money intended to pay the salary of an ambassador am-bassador to Moscow. It turned down, 108 to 105, on a teller vote, proposal to eliminate that item from an appropriation bill the first of several proposals planned by a group seeking to shut off this country's diplomatic relations with Russia. Representative McCormack (D., Mass.) who offered the defeated motion, served notice that he had another, and . similar one, to present. It would provide that none of the funds appropriated for the state department should be used for the maintenance of an embassy at Moscow or for the payment of salaries of any persons attached thereto. Representative Andresen (R., Minn.) commented that the close vote indicated that "a large number of members of this house favor severing diplomatic relations with Russia, Rus-sia, even though the vote was not on that specific question." v . . |
