Show Harries Arraignment Continued by Judge Arraignment of Robert S. Harries, Har-ries, former chief inspector of the Utah liquor control commission enforcement division, on a grand Jury indictment charging bribery, was continued until 10 a.m. Saturday Sat-urday by Third District Judge Ray Van Cott Jr., Tuesday. Originally scheduled for Tuesday Tues-day morning, the arraignment was continued on request of Dlst Atty. Brighsm E. Roberts, who told the court he hsd been informed Harries waa being treated in LDS hospital. . At the time the indictment was returned last Saturday, he was reported re-ported suffering from an Infected leg. The hospital reported his condition con-dition as "improved" Tuesday. Harries resigned from his post with the liquor control commission Mondsy, after the Salt Lake county grand , Jury returned the Indictment charging him with bribery. The resignation was accepted ac-cepted by the commission, following follow-ing s meeting of Commissioners George H. Lunt, Orlando S. Peterson Pe-terson snd Lawrence A. Johnson. Mr. Lunt said he believed no action would be taken "right now" toward choosing a successor for Harries. The grand jury charged him with having accepted a "protection "protec-tion bribe" in an unspecified amount from Cyrus V. Lack, former for-mer operator of the Brigham Street pharmacy liquor agency. Lack, indicted earlier by the Jury on a liquor embezzlement charge, is awaiting trial in Third district court Meanwhile, the Jurors' resumed sessions Tuesday in the city and county building, presumably pressing the three-month probe into the Utah liquor situation. Witnesses called Included operators oper-ators of taverns in Salt Lake and Carbon counties, and an employe of the liquor control commission. Further Indictments are expected ex-pected to be returned as the investigation in-vestigation continues. |
