Gardner has issued a challenge to box the redoubtable Quaker middle weight at San Francisco Fran-cisco or Philadelphia. The recent defeats of Tim Kearns apparently have not daunted the latter, tor Kearns has just signed articles to box Artie Slmms of Akron, O., before the Milwaukee A. C. on January 30th. The "go" la for ten rounds and the weight Is 133 pounds. George McFadden of New York city and Patsy Sweeney of Manchester, N. H-, have been matched to go eight rounds at 140 pounds before the Essex A. C. of Boston on January 29th. John Willie has been matched to box "KiC" Carter before the Acme club at San Francisco. The battle will be held in the near future. Southern clergymen are doing their best to prevent the Southern league from playing Sunday ball, and it looks as though they will succeed. |
