Show TOOK GIFT OF A PRINCE Now Governor of Hawaii Finds He Has Violated the Constitution. fCorresDondence of the Associated Press.) HONOLULU, Jan. 1. via San Francisco. Fran-cisco. Jan. 28. When the Japanese Prince Fushlml- passed through Honolulu Hono-lulu on his way to the United States, he was received with fitting ceremony by Gov. Carter and Secretary Atkinson, and recently on his Highness' return he left presents for the Governor, the Secretary Sec-retary and all others who had been charged with his entertainment. The Governor's present consisted of a massive mas-sive silver punch bowl, which has been much admired, but as Secretary Atkinson Atkin-son is away, in Washington, his present has not yet been opened. It now developes that in accepting a gift from a "foreign prince" the Governor Gov-ernor violated article 1, section 9 of the Constitution of the United States, which expressly forbids the taking of such presents. Just what the Governor is going to do remains to be seen, but It is expected that he will ask permission of Congress to accept the gift. |
