The North Dakota Press association passed through the city yesterday on its way home after a trip to the coast. The lecal Press club had made extensive preparation for the entertainment of the fellow craftsmen, but the plans were not rigorously adhered to, owing to a change in the itinerary of the Dakotans, which kept them on the coast five days longer than was at first planned. The party arrived In a special car. The train was delayed thirteen hours by a wreck near Tracy. A delegation of the Press club met the tourists and took them to lunch at the Commercial club.. At 2 o'clock a special train was boarded for Saltalr pavilion, where the visitors were greatly interested In the many strange and novel features of the resort and the surrounding country. Apostle John Henry Smith accompanied the party to the lake and made a short and very interesting address on the subject of Mormonlsm, explaining to the visitors the tenets of the faith. He explained the position of the church in relation to polygamy, which he defined as a God-given law. He declared that polygamlsts loved their wives and children, but when the United States Government demanded that they give dp their polygamous relations, they did so, though the wives and children had not been and would not be deserted. Grant S. Hager of the Prros association responded to the apostle's remarks and thanked him for his words. The party returned to the city at 4:30 o'clock and boarded an observation car. After this trip they were taken to the depot and departed for the north. |
