Show CRISIS IN TRANSVAAL JOHANNESBURG, March 1. Lord Milner, British High Commissioner In South Afrlcs, in delivering the presidential presiden-tial address before She Inter-Colonial Council for the Transvaal and Orange River Colony, revealed the grave financial finan-cial condition of the colony. He said a deficit amounting to $5,000,000 was due to the shrinkage in railway receipts and the general paralysis of Industry, while almost al-most all of the $150,000,000 loan had already al-ready been expended on railroads, the repatriation of the Boers snd the development develop-ment of the country. The only resources now were patience and economy. Lord Milner said he was not dismayed and that he hoped for improvements when aa adequate ade-quate supply of labor was - forthcoming. |
