According to Mr. Hines there should be no scarcity scar-city of water the coming year. If we can stop the waste, says Mr. Hines, there will be plenty of water for all. And why shouldn't we be able to stop the waste. What citizen is there so greedy that he is willing to make the whole city suffer in order that lie may have more water than he is entitled to? Surely no Salt Laker is willing to be termed a water hog. , v '. . And what is a water hog? He is a most con-j con-j temptible creature. He is the man who, when water j is scarce and every decent citizen is trying to use it sparingly, takes the. nozzle from his lawn hose at night, and dropping the hose in the grass, turns ! on the water, and lets it run all night. He is the same individual who ruqs water in his garden all night when people all over the city are suffering for water. There is only one way to treat this sort of hog. The citizen who surprises him engaged in his contemptible' con-temptible' business should promptly cause his arrest ar-rest and see that he is prosecuted to the law's limit. One thing is assured and that is, there will be an ample water supply if the people of Salt Lake are public-spirited enough to protect it. |
