Show Htrt's Hoping for Dsptw. Senator Depew is disposed to contest with Gov. Odell, the new New York boss, his dictum regarding the Senatorship from the Empire State. Odell has given it out that former Gov. Black shall succeed Depew in the Senatorial chair. Under the usual rules of bossism, Depew is supposed sup-posed to meekly submit. The Senatorial place was created for Depew by the former boss, Piatt, and other aspirants had to step aside in his favor. Now that a new boss has arisen, it would appear to be only reasonable that Depew should submit to his fate with becoming grace. But the after-dinner Senator sees things in another light, now that he fails to reap the reward of boss rule. But why should the Senatorship of the great State of New York, or of any other State, be the subject sub-ject of boss dictation? Although he was the creature crea-ture of n boss himself, it is to be hoped that Senator Depew will push his claims. If he should, and succeed suc-ceed in breaking Boss Odell's power, then the country coun-try would rise up and call him blessed. Boss rule should be broken, and New York is a good State in which to begin this excellent reform. |
