Show Elnsxr Dover's Rise in Politics. Elmer Dover, the newly appointed secretary of the Republican Rational committee, has had a rapid rise is politics. He. is not yet 31 years old. He was born in HcConnelsville, (X, April 14, 1873, and received re-ceived his education in the public schools there. When he was 16 he was "editor and manager" of the county paper at McConnelsville, and ran it for two years. From McConnelsville be went to Akron and worked as city editor of the Akron Beacon for two years; then to Portsmouth, O., where he was city editor of the Times for five years. He was at the Republicaa headquarters in Chicago during the campaign of 1896 as assistant to Charles Dick, who was assistant secretary of the committee. It was while at the headquarters that he met Mr. Hanna. The following year, when Hr. Hanna was appointed to the United States Senate, he chose Mr. Dover as his secretary. He is another of Mr. Hanna's "young men." Mr. Dover is married and has one daughter. |
