: NEGROES RECOGNIZED BY 1 ALABAMA REPUBLICANS. ' MONTGOMERY, Ala.. May . For . the first time ltt the history pf the Republican Re-publican party In this State negroes were given recognition at tne conference confer-ence of the Republicans held here yes- terday. The whites took seats on one side of the hall and the negroes on the other. Referees W. F. Aldrich, Charles H. . Scott and Jo Thompson., organized the conference: In calling the conference confer-ence to order Mr. Aldrich explained the object of the meeting. The referees had been appointed, he said, to correct mistakes and right the wrongs of the recent Birmingham convention. The speaker paid & tribute to President RooiseveK, and urged that only one delegation be sent to the next national convention, and that ptadged for Roosevelt. His reference to the President Presi-dent received liberal applause.
