Show SECRETARY CORTELYOU ASKS APPROPRIATION. Committee Seta Aside $200,000 for Department of Commerce. WASHINGTON, Feb. 26. Secretary Ccrtelyou was heard by a subcommittee sub-committee of the House Committee on Appropriations on the subject of an appropriation for the Department of Commerce and Labor. The sub-committee, after going over the estimates with Mr. Cortelyou in detail, agrcad to recommend an appropriation appro-priation of approximately $200,000 for the expenses of the department. While this is mueh less than the amount eMirr.ated by Mr. Cortelyou, It is esplrJiied that many of the items in the Secretary's -estimates have been provided for In- the legislative, executive execu-tive and judicial appropriation act Provision Pro-vision la to be made for a smaller number num-ber of specif examiners than proposed by Secretary Cortelyou.
