Show SLOW POtOOBESS MADE Km SUNDRY CIVIL BILL. Forty Pages of Measure Still to Be Disposed of by House. ( "WASHINGTON, Feb. 13. The House made slow progress with the sundry civil bill yesterday, completing only twenty-seven pages and leaving forty pages still to be. disposed of. The delays de-lays were occasioned by a rather protracted discussion of the item in the bill for the maintenance of the White House, and considerable debate upon the item appropriating 13.000.000 for the relief of distress in he Philippines. Philip-pines. Mr. Gaines (Dem.,' Tenn.) and Mr. Fltsgerald (Dem., N. Y.) criticised the greatly increased cost of maintaining maintain-ing the White House. ,An amendment to cut in half the appropriation for the relief ef the distress in the Philippines was defeated, but the language of the paragraph was modified to require annual an-nual reports of the expenditure of the money.' At 5:15 o'clock the House adjourned. |
