V . . . -. The principal actor in this drama of human affairs is Topsy Wood of Montrose, whose real name is said to be Mrs. Annie Endrick. Her life for- years! has been one of y tumultuous love affaii-s. She was spurned by one man, -with-whom she fell in love, and jilted by another, with whom she expected to elope. . With a criminal trial facing her, and numerous other difficulties, Mrs. Endrick is be- lieved to have planned a pretended suicide. The pretended suicide was to take place in Salt Lakd v City on October 3, but Mrs. Endrick is believed to" Eave become frightened, and on last Monday evening took -a , train for Glenwood Springs, Colo.- - - . . Last Saturday Marshal Gillery of Montrose, Colo., received, a letter .from .a woman who. aigned.her name as Mrs;. Lola Jordan,. po.prietof -of a'roonting; house at 103 Seegad East street. Salt Lake City, in wbiclr-it ws jtared that Topsy Wood had committed suicide by drinking chloroform. . The; ; message failed to go into detail of the-suicide, . Miss Wood 's, or Mrs.: Endrick ', attorney, at-torney, and others interested -in the case at Montrose, hurriedly dispatched ' messages to the police of Salt Lake Cfty, to look into the matter. Detective Detec-tive Burt was detailed on the. cas and went to the place designated in the letter, only to learn that Mrs. Endrick En-drick had departed, stating that Glenr wood Springs . would be her destination. destina-tion. ... ' ' Conflicting Messages. Monday afternoon Mrs. John Wood of Montrose, who is the mother of Mrs. Endrick. received a message from Salt Lake Citv, signed Annie Endrick. and which- simply' said: "I am all right." Later in 'the day the Marshal at Montrose received a message from Salt Lake signed Harry Leigh, which said: "Awaiting instructions what to do with body." . Intended to Disappear. ' From indications, in Salt Lake Citv it is believed ' that Mrs. Endrick intended in-tended to disappear entirely and intended in-tended to do this by a pretended suicide. sui-cide. At the time of the supposed tragic death of Mrs. Eudrick.'she was nnder indictment in Montrose countr, Colo., caartrinjr her with the attempted murder mur-der of Edward Keller, a well-known and wealthy stock owner, and his brid. The elopement, however, never took place,- for a few days, later Full suddenly sud-denly disappeared and with him went a woman known as Hazel. - Mrs. Endrick is said to have been hurt by this affair aud traveled tt Salt Lake in the hope of findin? Full. When she left Montrose she carried a revolver with her. Besides a mother. Mrs. Endrick ha two brothers and a sister, who live about fifty miles from Montrose. roonnng-Douse in second .bast street until Monday evening, when she left, saying that all her mail should bo addressed ad-dressed to Glenwood Springs. . When she learned that a detective was looking for her Monday she is said to have trembled and turned pale. She attempted to insinuate that the detective detec-tive was in a plot and that people were trying to make things warm for her. With a trembling hand she wrote the return message which stated that she was all right. Ordered From House. Mrs. Roscoo and Mrs. Endrick went to the Romona rooming-house about a week ago-. They asked for rooms snd secured them, near the rooms of two me. There was some trouble, as bottled bot-tled beer aad midnight lunches were taken to the rooms. Several days ago the landladv discovered that eighteen bottles of Wer had been used in one evening -and she asked the women to leave. Since coming here Mrs. Roscoe has filed suit against her, husband.. Frank A. Roscoe, in which she asked for a divorce di-vorce and the restoration of her maider same. Mrs. Roscoe is believed to be , in the city, but has not been found. Handwriting Compared. A comparison of the. handwriting of Mfs. Endrick at the rooming-house and the letter telling of the suicide are identical. It is believed that Mrs. Endrick became be-came frightened and that the proposed plans fell through. Several months ago an attempt was . |
