Show BROWN Ol" TS SAVE FUEL; WATER POWER NOT AFFECTED Visitors from other parts of the country express surprise at the absence of the "brownout" here I m Utah and even indulge in skeptical remarks when it is ex-j ' plained that this state, along with Idaho, Montana. Oregon and , Washington, is exempted from power conservation rules by the OPA. But any misunderstanding can be cleared up when "doubting "doubt-ing Thomases" realize that the, reason lor "brownouts" m other areas is the urgent need to gave fuel rather than electricity Unlike many other sections, where steam plants consume coal and other essential fuels, this area obtains its energy al-j al-j most exclusively from water power. This has been made possible pos-sible by far-seeing arrangements with other power systems in states to the northwest tor inter j connecting lines where power 1 also is generated at hydroelectric ! plants. Thus the "brownout" ol- ders, designed to conserve fuel in other sections, are not necessary neces-sary here. However, power officials warn, this does not mean that savinc of electricity in the home, at business establishments and in industry is unnecessary. Waiting I power is unpatriotic here as well as in other places. Utah power users an- fortunate in having available such a power system which keeps their lines supplied with a normal flow of electricity ; even in time of war. |
