Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett I don't feel much like writing writ-ing or thinking about sports. This week brought word that two more Bingham boys. Jack Whitten and Malcolm Rose, have been lost in this terrible game of life and death that is the first thought of all of us now. I didn't have the good fortune to know Malcolm well, but all his friends, and there are many, tell me that he was a mighty fine person. Jack I have known since he was a pretty young fellow. 1 knew Jack in sports when he v, as a basketball star at Bingham j high and I knew him as well as if we were in the same family-lb' family-lb' was a real American boy and ' loved every minute of life. He was a fellow liked by everyone and loved by those who knew him well. I know that when the going was tough Jack would be at his best and I'll lay plenty thai ome of the Fuehrer's boys knew Jack was in the game. Yes. he is gone, but the world is better for having had Jack in it, even for a short time. I am Droud of the fact that I was numbered among his friends. To Gale and Mrs. Rose, this corner says, "I am sorry. You have the sympathy of everyone of us." Sports? I'll have something next week. AL |
