J., Oct ll.To-, day, the fourth day of the trial of Pr. j Frank Brouwer, ' who is charged with j slowly killing his wife taroHh the i medium 'Of small doses of' poison, finds the case of the prosecution wall towards ; completion. Some more expert , medi-eal medi-eal testimony will be presented and then witnesses will be. called through whom the prosecutor expects to establish estab-lish a motive for the alleged crime. The witnesses who have already testified testi-fied were produced in an endeavor to show that a crime bad been committed and how it was, accomplished. Tha testimony, taken as whole, was largely large-ly circumstantial. - - . I The proceedings yesterday, Dr. Brou-J wer's friends say, . were favorable to the defendant. Dr. H. H. Cate, who was ' expected to giva , damaging testi- : mony, practically absolved the doctor from arjy wrongdoing in connection with the issuance of the death certificate. certifi-cate. . , ' . It had been said that Dr. Brouwer induced in-duced Dr. Cate to sign a false leath certificate, but Dr. Cate tettiled that this was aot true. He testified that Dr. Brouwer did not ask him to sign the certificate, which stated that death was due te Bright 's disease, and ha further said that Dr. Brouwer did pot. evea know he was to sign the certificate. certifi-cate. Dr. Cate, it will be remembered, disappeared dis-appeared soon after Mrs. Brouwer 's death, and this, at ' the time, was deemed to have significance in connection connec-tion with the case. Dr. Cate, in answer an-swer to the prosecutor's questions, said that his disappearance had no connection connec-tion with the death of Mrs. Brouwer. He said he west to New York and that was the last he remembered until he came te Ingoshen. ; Dr. Cate also gave his reasons' fof supposing that Mrs. Brouwer had died of Bright 's disease. He was brighter than he has -been at any time during the trial and his face showed the relief be apparently felt. Women form a maioritv of the spectators spec-tators at the trial. Nearly threa-fourths threa-fourths of those ia attendance yesterday yester-day were womea. Later ia the afternoon after-noon two sehool teachers came in with about twenty-fiv girl pupils.
