Hypnotism, : or occult power of some kind, is alleged in one of the most unusual divorce complaints com-plaints ever filed in the Superior court. The plaintiff, Olive Heath, does not claim to be legally married to the defendant, de-fendant, Herbert More hart, andy therefor, there-for, she caused her maiden name to. be used in the complaint. She alleges she was married to Henry Cornwell when 16 years old, and lived happily for two years in Midland. Mich., until the de- fendant, Herbert Morehart, came into her'life. She alleges he knew she was married to Cornwell, but some occult power compelled her to go to Gladwin, Michl, where defendant procured a mar-Tiaga mar-Tiaga license by making an affidavit that she had lived in the county two years, and that neither of them had ever been married, thereby committing perjury. per-jury. She further alleges they moved from tfity to city, and 8tate to State, that by threats and the peculiar power he exercised exer-cised over her, he compelled her to remain re-main with him for nine years. She avers that they came to Marion July 26, 1905, that he remained here until -recently, when he left her for fear of arrest, ar-rest, he having exerted a similar power over her vounger sister, Clara- Heath, age 18. Nino Tears in Purgatory. The plaintiff asserts that her life for nine years has been like m soul in purgatory. purga-tory. She said she lived in constant fear, that she was humiliated because of the pretended marriage and her life with the defendant, but that she could not free herself from his influence. She aavs she is a mental and physical wreck as the result. She said she learned that her husband. hus-band. - Henry Cornwell, obtained a divorce di-vorce from her on the grounds of desertion, de-sertion, and, therefore, she has taken her maiden name in proseeting the divorce di-vorce case of the pretended marriage. |
