Show SUSPECT MURDER IN LAYTON CASE J. L. AtKinson Was Return- ihg From Visit to Sweetheart Sweet-heart When He Met Fate; Telegram From Parents. Sheriff James Ware of Davis county received re-ceived a telegram from the father of John L. Atkinson, the man who was found dead at the side of the Oregon Short Line track near Layton Wednesday morning, today. The parents of the dead man live at ' Salyersvllle, Ky., and It is probable that the body will be taken to that place for Interment. It Is now known that Atkinson Atkin-son bought a ticket over the Oregon Short Line for Layton Tuesday evening and that he boarded the 6:10 p. m. train for that place, for the purpose of visiting Miss Edith Dawson, Jo whom he has been paying his attentions for nearly a year. The visit was made and Atkinson left his sweetheart with the Intention of re- turning to Salt Lake. It Is said that he had considerable money on his person at the time that he left this city. Just be- fore he boarded the train for Layton he loaned a friends $5. It Is now thought that Atkinson was - -murdered and robbed of his money after he left the home of Miss Dawson . and . that his body was then placed on the -track for the purpose of hiding the crime. It Is believed that the body was placed on the track In ' such a position that all ldeutity as to murder would be lost In the mutilation of the body by the passing train. Atkinson taught school at Kays-vllle Kays-vllle about a year ago during which Urn be became acquainted with Miss Dawson, to whom he has been paying his attentions atten-tions for several months. An inquest over the remains will be held at Layton this afternoon at 5 o'clock at which It is expected some Interesting developments will take place. |
