Show ENDS TROUBLES BY TAKING LIFE Girl Stenographer, Failing Fail-ing to find Work, Takes Carbolic Acid. Miss Gertrude Shand, a stenographer, took her own life In the offices of the Tellurlde Power company, 419 McCornlck block,, shortly before 6 o'clock last evening. The young woman recently returned from Los Angeles and, being unable to obtain employment Is believed to have become despondent and taken her life. She was about 23 years old and came to Salt Lake from Pittsburg about two months ago. When the woman was found in the office yesterday by Luclan Laudle she was unconscious. She was taken Into Samuel BarloWs sample-room, where Drs. E. S. Wright and W. F. Beer were called to' attend her. .. An ambulance was called gnd the woman, was taken to the police station. When It was found that she could not be taken care of there she was sent- to the Keogh-Wrlght Keogh-Wrlght hospital. While the ambulance was on Its way there word was received at the police station that the woman could not be cared for at that place. When the ambulance am-bulance arrived It was found that the woman had died on the way and the body was removed to Eber W. Hall's undertaking rooms in West Temple street. An examination of the woman's effects ef-fects failed to disclose where any of her relatives could be found. She worked for the Power, company at Provo for a short time and then went to Los Angeles. She returned several days ago and since then had been unable un-able to secure work. She Is said to have been rather reticent as to her affairs. af-fairs. Coroner Dana T. Smith Is making an effort to locate the relatives of the young woman. The remains are being prepared for burial, and, unless relatives rela-tives are heard from, will be buried by the county. |
