Show IMPALED OH FORK; ; FATALLY INJURED AMERICAN FORK. Utah. March L A serious seri-ous accident baa taken place at Bsnjamln whereby Edgar Luodell. . the ten-year-old son of Charles Lundell may lose his Ufe. The boy was working la the barnyard and attempted at-tempted to climb up the side of a high hay tack. He uaed a long-handled pitchfork to help himself up and had nearly reached the top. when the fork (lipped out of hie hwids and fell to the ground, the handle striking the ground and the cruel tinea pointing up. He grlFPed the hay and struggled hard, but was unable to bold hlmeelf from falling and slid down the stack, lighting fairly on the sharp-pointed sharp-pointed steel tines. The fork handle did not break and there the little fellow, was suspended sus-pended In the 'air, fastened on the fork tines, which had penetrated his body. His agonised cries brought T. E. Dlmmond and a rosng man, who were passing in a rig. to the scene. The boy was lifted down as carefully as possible, pos-sible, and laid on the ground. The men then pulled the fork,, which was embedded over four Inches In the flesh, from the child. It took all the strength they could muster 'to. accomplish It, and the poor child suffered excruciating ex-cruciating agony before he was free fmra the fork. The little fellow was taken .to his home, - where medical assistance was hastily summoned. sum-moned. It was found, upon examination, that the colon had been penetrated, and it was feared that the backbone had been Injured. The child is resting very easily at present. |
