Show PEABODY HOLDS ON TO GOVERNORSHIP; HE MAY VIOLATE HIS AGREEMENT! DENVER. March 17. The uppermost upper-most question In legislative and political politi-cal circles this morning Is whether Gov. James H. Pea body will repudia'e hts resignation, which was written In advance ad-vance of the General Assembly declaring declar-ing him entitled to the office, for the purpose of Influencing Republican members who would not otherwise vote for him, but who wished to ila-e Lieut. -Gov. Jesse F. McDonald in the Governor's chair. That Mr. Peabody gave his pledge to resign within twenty-four hours after his inauguration is positively known by scores of members of the Legislature and others, and is not denied bv his friends. Nevertheless. D. E. Fulrley, chairman of the Republican State committee, com-mittee, has stiongly intimated tint Gov. Peabody will not resign and thai his resignation, which was placul in the hHiids of W. S. Uoynton for riling with the Secretary of State, was merely "tentative" and will be withdrawn. Gov. Peabody himself is non-committal on the subject of his resignation, merely saying he Is "in the hands of his friends" and will do whatever is decided de-cided to be for the best Interests of the Republican party. To a message from friends in Victor Inquiring whether he intended to resign the Governor replied: "If they want my resignation they can have it." |
