Show NO QUILTING IN JAIL a Jack Masters Hot Allowed to Do Fahcj Work While In Prison. Jack Masters, an ex-eonvlct, who Is serving- a term in the city Jail for misdemeanor, mis-demeanor, is a disappointed man. While Masters waa the guest of the State In the big stone bouse on tha hill he learned the New 2n-land art of quilting. quilt-ing. He became a fancy needle man, and when he was shown to his private cell in the city jail he felt a longing- In his heart for occupation for his Idle hands. Masters thought that It would be a shame to waste all that good time doing do-ing nothing, so decided to piece a few quilts. He aent a friend to his old tooms and had the friend take to the jail the quilting frame and a full box of fancy cotton. But Jack did sot get the frame, nor the cotton. The' desk sergeant on duty Thursday night saw the frame and ths cotton first, and held up the friend for an explanation. The frame resembles nothing; more than a small edition of the rack used with such telling effect during; the lime of the Inquisition, and the suspicions of sergeant were aroused. The friend was allowed to go his way, i but the quilting frame and the box of assorted cotton were held in the office, where they will be kept on exhibition until Masters' time has expired. Masters has fpund work for his idle hands on the city rock pile. It is feared that his hands will be too hard p.nd calloused when he has finished the task assigned to him, to do the dainty stitches for which he Is, to, a limited degree, famous. |
