Show ! FLOATING HOSPITAL FOR 1 I INEBRIATES PROPOSED CHICAGO, March 23. Hospital ships for habitual drunkards, to be anchored in a safely isolated part of the harbor, is the scheme proposed by Dr. C. L. Mix, experts in the treatment of alcoholic alco-holic patients, in a lecture before the social science class in the Fine Arts building. Dr. Mix discussed the subject of "Cure for Inebriates," calling the present pres-ent system of throwing drunkards indiscriminately in-discriminately into the Bridewell "archaic." He took a pessimistic view of prohibition prohibi-tion and local option, and said that in the matter of prevention stricter legislation legis-lation for the control of saloons should, be advocated. "An habitual drunkard Is a diseased man." said Dr. Mix, "and he should be looked after with a medical eye. "Inebriates should be divided into two classes. The first is the hospital stage, and the second the convalescent. The two never should be mixed. "The- first thing to do is to withdraw the person, then take care of the reactionary reac-tionary symptoms. The physical damage dam-age on the stomach, liver and kidneys must be repaired. After this comes the years or so of convalescence, and the patient shouH fy 'nrr"i return In a short tune. i .. "Joht vt. H.
