Show D.R. FRANCIS! ISANGRY Charges Tkat Investigating Committee Made False Statements. A general denial of the statements made by the investigating committee sent to St. Louis by the Legislature is made In no uncertain terms in a telegram sent to Gov. John C. Cutler by David R. Francis, resident of the exposition. He asserts that he never turned a cold shoulder to the commutes and scoffs the Idea of the stlling of award ribbons as "ridiculous and libelous." If such awards were made the perpetrators shall be prosecuted. ( The telegram reads as follows: . "Hon J C. Cutler, Governor of Ltan, and Chairman Utah Commission: "Have Just read the report, dated March 9 of special committee your House of Representatives, on Utah commission to Kt. Louis exposition. If committee visited St. Louts they did not call on me or any exposition officials. Charges In report against exposition management in connection con-nection with sale of award ribbons are ridiculous and libelous. Award ribbons are sold bv concessionaire solely, no exposition ex-position official having any interest there-In. there-In. Their sale was permitted by the exposition ex-position for the accommodation of exhibitors, exhib-itors, but was restricted by those receiving receiv-ing awards, and other purchases of such ribbons are fraud, to which both concessionaire conces-sionaire and purchaser are parties, and both will be prosecuted In every instance. I cannot understand why any committee should make such statements without thorough investigation. All charges that awards at this exposition are a subject of commercial barter, are wholly false and their authors wilful falsifiers, and those who repeat them belong to the same class. Award diplomas and medals will be delivered deliv-ered to successful exhibitors, without charge, as soon as possible. Of course, award ribbon concessionaire has nothing whatever to do with conferring of awards. "DAVID R. FRANCIS." The commltee sent ot St. Louis consisted consist-ed of Representatives 8. J. Btookey, . N. Gundry and Harry S. Joseph. They caused considerable comment by stating that President Francis had hurriedly left them, in a discourteous manner, after having been Introduced to them by President Pres-ident Huttig of tha Third National bank of St. Louis. In answer to the dispatch, the committee commit-tee declares that what President Francis states Is true in part. That they made no official call on him. They further declare that he is misinformed regarding the swarding of ribbons. |
