Steele re turned to the campus Tuesday, after attending the annual meet-ing of the Association of Amer-ican Colleges in Cleveland, O. WESTMINSTER COLLEGE I NEWS Chaplain E. G. Montag, lieu-- I tenant commander, U. S. navy, spoke in the chapel on Monday about his experiences during the past eighteen months on the U.S.S. Denver. The most thrill-ing event of that time was the engagement with one arm of the Japanese fleet in Siragao Strait, during the second battle of the Philippines. It was at night, and our fire was directed solely by radar, but was so effective that the enemy's power was broken. A chapel program was" pre-sented by the German club Tues-day morning. Under the direc-tion of Mrs. Use Hecht, German instructor, a program of German songs, readings, and dances was presented by the following class members: Joan Ten Eyck, Lau-ren- e Hodges, Marvella Freestone, Bob McCauley, Clara Simpson, and Jack Hurd. The constitution of the Student association has been revised to conform to Westminster's new status as a senior college- One interesting item is the provision that no member of the associa-tion may belong to a social fra-ternity or sorority. Dean J. S. Boughton commented that he was happy to see the preserva-tion of the democratic ideal, in this day when many colleges have the problem of decreasing the emphasis on fraternity poli-tics on the campus. Dr. Charles G. Whitwell spoke to the Faculty club Thursday evening in the parlor of Foster hall, men's dormitory, discussing the new position of t le Philip-- ; nines in the Far East.
