Show Boys Summer Playground la Playground has been underway under-way for well over two weeks. i Attendance figures have shown j over 100 present daily. The Boy Scouts' week at Tracy Wigwam cut attendance somewhat at that tune. Monday 140 boys were at' j the playground-Philip playground-Philip Montoya, the fireball ' ! pitcher of Frogtown, takes his turn almost daily in the box for: his team and has turned in some I well pitched ball games. Ray Montoya, his brother, has been playing the outfield and made a j great one-handed catch of Don i Lipsey's fly ball the other day. Rukus Cowdell's fine pitching and hitting made him the hero of the day last Friday when he defeated Bingham in an over- j time game. He also belted two home runs, one with bases load-1 ed. , Briggie Knudsen, who is play-! ing the outfield for Bingham, is I back after a week's absence. "Brig" has been in bed with a j cold. Louie Cortez, who now lives j at Clearfield, has been at the playground during the past two weeks, playing dailv with the club which worked him in. Louie j j says he misses baseball up his 1 ! way more than anyone could j guess. Tommy and Johnny Garahana j are fielding and hitting hard for the Bingham club. Both boys are I fine ball players. I Elias and Dickey Roblez are also on the playground daily and improving their hitting and fielding field-ing ability. Clinton Coleman, Ronnie Kas-telic Kas-telic and Gary LaComb are the mainstays of the Gemmell club. I The three are fine prospects. Copperton Cardinals, led by Larry Stillman, and Dick Houghton, Hough-ton, are winning their share of games daily. "Cotton" Sumnicht is pitching for Bingham and has had his share of success as far as victories vic-tories go. J. D. Boren, Larry West and Don Lipsey are playing for Frog-town Frog-town and doing a really great job, both in the field and at the bat. Tom Sotiriou is catching for the Copperfield entry. Tommy is the smallest catcher ever to don the gear, but he is in their daily doing the job. His brother Gus plays second base and the outfield out-field for the same team. Eugene Rino is on the playground play-ground daily trying to locate the key to the pitcher's box and getting get-ting the left handed bats for the left handed hitters. Donnie Gust is turnir- - in some great baseball at second for Bingham Bing-ham team. He is also doing some pitching. Don Lipsey, speedy outfielder for Bingham, is a much-improved ball player this year. Bob and Dick Jenkins are playing play-ing with Copperton. Second and first base are amply taken care of by these two fine boys. Boyd Stoddard, Kent Christ-iensen Christ-iensen and James Peterson played play-ed all last week with Copper-ton. Copper-ton. All these boys are good prospects pros-pects and hit the ball to all corners corn-ers of the lot. Rudv Pino is pitch i- for Copperfield Cop-perfield and Amedeo, his brother, chucks for Bingham. These two-boys two-boys carry their rivalry home and into the wee hours of the night. Both are "tops" in my I book. |
