Show City Treasurer Dies At S. S L. L Residence Milton E. E Lipman 79 Salt Lake City treasurer since 1932 and a time long civic and business leader of the community died Friday at 1 30 pm p.m. at his residence 1107 E. E South Temple of carcinoma He had been ill for two months Milton Lipman was the soul of honor and integrity said Mayor Earl J. J Glade when in informed informed informed in- in formed of Mr Lipman's death Through his extended experience ence in financial matters his w wise se judgments and his enterprise he put the treasury ship of Salt Lake City on a high plane Mr Lipman's fine friendliness and his gracious manner endeared him to all an of us In his passing I have lost a great friend Headed Store Mr Lipman was president and general manager of the L. L A A. Cohn Dry Goods department store for 27 years and and founded the Mercantile Investment Co which he headed as president 23 years He Hc also was manager of Walkers Walker's Dry Goods Co beginning in July 1930 Mr Lipman also was active in civic and social organizations and had been a member of the Salt Lake Rotary club since it was organized organized organized or or- in 1911 He served in various capacities in the club over overa a period of years being elected president for 24 1923 and district governor of ot Rotary International in 1929 He was active in organizing the Salt Lake Community Chest and served as its president in 1926 27 He also was a member of the board of directors of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of governors of the hospital for crippled children children chil chil- dren until a year ago He had been active in Masonic circles since 1907 He was a member member mem mem- ber of Mount Moriah lodge No 2 F and A M and a noble of El Kalah temple Mystic Shrine He served as illustrious potentate of El EI Kalah Kalab temple in 1916 and was elected an emeritus member of the Imperial Imperial Im Im- Im- Im penal council He also was a former president of the Masonic Temple Mr Lipman also held memberships memberships memberships member member- ships in the Alta club a arid and d the Salt Lake Country club He was a member of St. St Marks Mark's Episcopal church Born in New York City Dec 30 1868 a son of Berthold and Hattie Lipman he was educated in city schools and was graduated from City College of New York Following his graduation from college Mr Lipman spent several years ears in the theater where he established established established es es- es- es a name as an actor on the legitimate stage Wed Ved In 1897 He married Lillian Margaret Smith of New York June 16 1897 and in 1900 they came to Salt Lake City to make their home The next 32 years were devoted to mercantile endeavors and civic activities In February 1932 he was appointed city treasurer by the late Mayor Louis Marcus and he had been reappointed by every Salt Lake mayor since that time g are his widow a daughter Mrs Irs Adelaide Washington D. D C C. a son Allan M M. Lipman Salt Lake City three grandchildren Jean Carol Allan M.
