Show 'Watchdogs' Left to Guard Home Just Dupes to Burglar CHICAGO. William Offerman's two Boston terriers proved useless as watchdogs. OfTerman, 52, a tavern tav-ern keeper, left the dogs to guard his home. During the evening a burglar broke into the second floor apartment apart-ment through a bedroom window. Swiftly he locked both dogs in a bedroom. I After searching the apartment at I his ease, the burglar started to leave with a wristwatch, a pistol and $60 in other loot. On the back steps he met Offerman and his wife, Grace, who were returning home. The Offermans stood their ground ! until two bullets from the thief's I gun crashed into the stairway. They ! stepped aside as he fled. |
