Show There Theres Plenty of Optimism But No Na Height in Bingham Cage Fold I Editors Editor's note This is another in a series of or articles analyzing prospects in h i t J jr g h schools throughout the state By Br Steve Stee BINGHAM Dec 11 Theres There's never any real lack of basketball optimism at Bingham it seems and this year rear is no exception as the Miners await the opening of the Jordan division season Reasons for this optimistic outlook outlook outlook out out- look as explained by their philosophic coach Sunn Sunny Allsop is the fact that the locals arent aren't being drummed as favorites or contenders In fact the kids like their new role and they wouldn't like any anything thIn better than to spring a few upsets before the season is over All this does not go in saying that the Miners have already conceded conceded conceded con con- ceded defeat not by a long shot It n only goes in hi stating that the are looking forward to a tough season of Jordan play Moreover many obstacles face the 1948 edition of the Miners Lack of Height Foremost of these problems is summed up in one word word height In Bingham's case it is the lack of height that will hurt them Only two men on th the team reach over the six-foot six mark and they both lack experience Yes a tall man on the Bingham team is as scarce as employment in this tiny copper town As a result the Miners will utilize a fast-break fast o offensive system when they open the season Coach Allsop reports that his lads have plenty of speed enthusiasm and the desire to make good In short the Bingham's Bingham's Bingham's Bing Bing- hams ham's team can be summing in one short phrase long in fight and short in height I If experience were sufficient enough to win the games the Bingham Bingham Bingham Bing Bing- I ham lads would be right up there inasmuch as Allsop has five re returning returning returning re- re turning letter men back in the I fold this year I Heading the list of returning veterans is Capt Boyd Stoddard a capable guard and a good longshot longshot longshot long- long shot artist Working the other guard spot with Stoddard will be Rudy Pino and Don Gust both of whom are returning letter men Other aspirants for the position include Dale Crump and Patty both up from last years year's soph crew Jenkins Twins ins Back Little difficulty is faced In se selecting selecting selecting se- se the forwards inasmuch as Allsop has two letter men and two newcomers all trying out for the position Lefty Bob Jenkins will form one of the spots while twin brother Dick will work with Bob I from the other forward slot Both are returning letter men Also ready to see action as forwards are Sunny's two mighty mid midgets ets Johnny King and Johnny Garahana Garahana Garahana Gara- Gara hana both great little workers Uncertainty pocks the center position where the Allsop gang lacks an experienced center Billy Taylor Kent Christensen Christensen- and Bobby Moore form the trio trying out for the position Unfortunately Taylor lost a year of valuable experience last year while Chris Chrisand Chrisand Chrisand and Moore are newcomers All three youngsters have impressed in practices thus far tar and much of the teams team's success will depend upon how well they perform T Typical Season Coach Allsop looks for a typical Jordan division season one in which no one can be classed as a definite favorite He did add one statement saying saying- that the team making 50 of ot its foul pitches would be a top ranking team Concerning Concerning Concerning Con Con- his own team he had this to say We have obvious weaknesses weaknesses weaknesses weak weak- nesses but we also have things that may offset our weakness however however how how- ever I do feel that if given a smile from lady luck we can make make- it tough for a few v of the teams in our league There is speed enthusiasm and experience on the Bingham club but the ancient Miner complaint complaint- not enough height |
