Show YOUR BABY AND MINE Saving Suggestions for Mothers By MYRTLE MEYER ELDRED The superintendent of a foster home for children finds that she is always seeking new and better better better bet bet- ter ways of taking care of chil chil- dren She has discovered some ways for making work easier which she would like to pass on onto onto onto to the readers of this column She believes that it is possible to keep an active child covered at night by use of a thin old blanket wrapped loosely under the childs child's arms from front to back and the ends brought over the shoulders and fastened with large pins to the front This keeps the child warm without preventing his moving around the thc crib or standing up Another use I have for this type of blanket is to sew it into a square putting a zipper up the side This is wonderful to wrap up a wriggly child and very handy to carry a few diapers or a small package in inthe inthe inthe the bottom The same bag can be used for the older child to keep him warm when he is ridIng riding riding rid rid- ing in a car I know you forgot to mention that there would have to be an opening cut for the baby's head She continues I find paper diapers a wonderful saving of washing For the Ule older child who still wets at night I use double diapers and a protective covering cover cover- ing This saves the sheets from being wet For the baby who doesn't move about I use one of those wet resistant pads under him Babies are happier in a high highchair highchair highchair chair or pen if they can look at themselves in a mirror or out of a window or door I I. find it easier to dress a restless child if I put him on a table or chair in front of a mirror I use old Turkish towels for bibs I also make overalls with extra long straps and loops on the seat I pull the straps through the loops and tie them In the back In this way they can fit it any sized child I leave no opening at the side for overalls but make the seat back full and put in an nn cl elastic ti I make snow suits out of I heavy cotton blanket materials with only two seams front and back elastic in leg and sleeve and a zipper up tip the front One blanket makes three sets and they are easy to clean Our leaflet No 38 Hours of Sleep which contains the diagram of a sleeping bag similar to the one described It may be had by sending a stamped s addressed sf envelope envelope envelope en en- with your request to Myrtle Meyer Eldred in care of Salt Lake Telegram home service service service ice bureau |
