W Clark of juven court Tuesday in committing a year old persistent traffic law violator to the state industrial school The youth appeared before the court on his bis traffic violation charge in 16 month months This charge was for reckless driving and it involved a wild three-mile three chase through the southeast residential section with arresting officers accusing the youth of repeatedly ignoring stop signs and red traffic lights and driving at speeds as high as 70 miles an hour in an effort to escape At the same court hearing Judge Clark suspended the drivers driver's license of a year old youth for one year on his third traffic violation charge After imposing the sentences Judge Clark declared Since the current safety campaign began this court has increased fines and penalties against juvenile traffic violators and it will continue to increase the penalties until the violations stop We trust these actions and statements of the Salt SaIt Lake juvenile court judge will be noted by youthful drivers in this city The juvenile court means business It intends to go along with the safety program in the city increasing fines and penalties penalties penalties penal penal- ties against juvenile violators with violators with suspension of the licenses of persistent violators and as a final step commitment to the industrial school Particularly commendable is that statement of Judge Clarks Clark's Clarksto to the effect that juvenile drivers must learn to respect the rights of others No one wants to be unduly harsh with youngsters youngsters youngsters young young- but it is a simple fact that in one manner or another youths must be taught to respect the rights of others Sooner or later everyone has to learn leam that lesson If children do not learn it in their own homes then the responsibility devolves upon the juvenile court If the juvenile court is unsuccessful then regular courts will do the teaching in far harsher fashion when the youth turns 18 It is doing no favor to any juvenile to let him get the impression impression sion fion he can go blithely through life with utter disregard for the rights of others Sooner or later he is going to learn differently and and the sooner he be learns the better for him and for everyone else |
