Show Lifetime of Forest Service THE THE HE impending retirement January 1 1944 of C. C N. N Woods from his position a as re re regional gional forester for the intermountain region of the United States forest service may cost the forest service the skill and experience of one of its oldest and ablest administrators but the state of Utah and especially his home city city of Ogden should gain in the greater availability availability availability for public service of a man who has proven himself an outstanding civic leader I Mr Woods' Woods career as a professional forester forester forester for for- ester parallels the development of scientific forest management in the west When he J first went into that work 41 years ago there i was no national forest service True there were forest areas under federal control but butr i ir r r little or nothing was done with these lands in the way of management and conservation 4 Mr Woods has seen the techniques and policies policies policies poli poli- cies of forest conservation develop develop and and has himself helped in considerable measure in that development over development over the years He He is credited with the initiation of many of the progressive policies of range management which have been placed in effect on national forest lands and which are of such vital concern concern concern con con- con con- cern to stock raising in this intermountain country i It wasn't only in forest work that Mr i Woods occupied a position of prominence in inthe inthe t the intermountain region He was one of 1 Ogden's forem foremost st civic leaders He has long J been active in traffic safety work both in ina a Ogden and in Utah as a whole He has been president of the Ogden community chest and active in chamber of commerce Rotary and Boy Scout work in that city After his retirement retirement re re- re- re nt from the forest service the first of i the year he will continue to make his home in inI I Ogden and no doubt will be even more active than formerly there and in the state as a whole in civic affairs j i Utah salutes C.
