M I I. I A. A conference Sunday President Heber J J. J Grant and his first counselor J. J Reuben Clark Jr advised members to re resist resist resist re- re the panic of ot fear by those who want the United States to enter the European war and expressed expressed expressed ex ex- pressed hope that the nation will remain neutral Last sessions in the tabernacle brought out record attendances President Grant still convalescing from his recent illness was present at the afternoon meeting His message message message mes mes- sage was waS' read by David O. O McKay second counselor in the first L. L D D. D S S. M Thompson second assistant su superintendent superintendent superintendent su- su of the Primary spoke briefly as did Mrs Adele Cannon Howells first assistant A tribute to Miss May Anderson former general superintendent was paid by her successor Mrs May Green Hinckley in charge of the meeting The final M. A The afternoon general session seshion under direction of the first presidency dency included many speeches by general church authorities Mr Clark asserted in his evening speech that prophecies indicate that no nation shall vanquish this country In view of these prophecies prophecies prophecies cies Latter day Saints should not permit those who want to participate participate participate pate in the war to blind them to the promised destiny he said Continuing he said With these God given promises and prophecies before you do flo o not let yourselves be stampeded into this panic of fear that is now sweeping over the country deliberately propagated by those who wish to get us into the war on any pretext this pretext this fear that if we do not enter this war we face subjection by a foreign foe If subjection shall come corne it will come because we have reached a fullness of iniquity and not because because because be be- cause we fail to take on the horrors horrors horrors hor hor- of this war It is righteousness not the hates of human slaughter of which this his nation stands in need he said |
